A "Crisp" installation at Glennan's - 8th November 2010

Flamefast installation division have recently completed the install of four six tank Ansul R102 systems at the UK’s leading manufacturer of vegetable crisps, Glennan’s in Uttoxeter.

Senior Management at the production facility, made the decision to investigate the advantages of protecting the existing four large vat fryers to provide increased safety of staff and to ensure the company could still meet the huge demand of finished product from their growing list of Blue Chip clients, by retaining business continuity in the event of a fire, which could potentially devastate the multi-million pound factory. A team of nine engineers completed the 1st and 2nd fixes during twelve days, over a period of three weeks in order to fit around production.

The Ansul R102 control equipment was installed in the plant room directly above the Vat fryers and piped through a large stainless drop pipe, below.

David Glennan, Managing Director of Glennan’s, said of the install...  “Fire suppression was a large investment for Glennan’s and it was important that we found the right supplier. Flamefast have exceeded our expectations in all areas from consultation through to installation and commissioning, the work was carried out by an extremely professional team that adhered to all of our stringent hygiene requirements and worked around production to ensure a minimum of downtime. The wet test that was carried out, and the training and understanding of the system given to the staff,  means that I now have peace of mind that in the event of a fire it will be contained and extinguished in an instance...... let’s hope I never have to use it!”

Above; two banks of six pull stations have been fitted by both the main fire exits from the production area, note 5 & 6 are not yet in use.

Below; distribution pipe work which has been repeated four times over each fryer.

Business Development Manager for Flamefast UK, Stewart King, who was involved in the project from the outset, said... “This project was a fantastic opportunity to further prove the capabilities of Flamefast both in project management and quality of installation and customer service. There were very many challenges to overcome regarding hygiene within the highly sensitive working environment and fitting around the very demanding production schedule. All of which made this install require very careful project management and coordination from our Operations Manager Chris Fox. It is always fantastic to receive such positive feedback from the client and we look forward to phase two of the project which will see the addition of another two six tank systems to protect two new fryers sometime in 2011.
